Effective Home Remedies For High Cholesterol

High cholesterol does not show any symptoms, so the only way to detect it is through blood tests. People who consume a lot of animal products and are overweight or obese should be careful.

When we hear the word “cholesterol”, we generally think of it as a symptom caused by high fat intake that can be controlled by home remedies. In reality, cholesterol is a waxy white lipid that circulates in the blood and is involved in many important functions, including the production of hormones and vitamin D. It is present in every cell in the body. The liver produces enough of it, and when another amount enters the body from food, the liver compensates by reducing its production.

When cholesterol is circulated, it is bound to proteins in the form of complexes called lipoproteins. Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) are often called “bad cholesterol” because they deposit in the walls of the arteries, while high-density lipoproteins (HDL) are called “good cholesterol” because they return cholesterol to the liver.

High cholesterol levels in the body increase the risk of developing atherosclerosis, which is the deposition of fat on the walls of the arteries, and cardiovascular disease because the fat blocks the flow of blood.

Symptoms Of High Cholesterol

High cholesterol does not cause any symptoms and can only be detected by blood tests. It is suspected if you eat a lot of animal products, or if you are overweight or obese.

It is not the problem itself, but the amount of cholesterol and fat in these foods, which can lead to significantly higher cholesterol levels in the blood if the diet is not balanced. Pet foods contain cholesterol and saturated fat, the latter of which raises LDL levels and causes fat to build up in the walls of the arteries. Saturated fats also seem to stimulate the liver to produce more cholesterol.

On the other hand, some people have a genetic predisposition to suffer from high cholesterol levels, which in some cases have been linked to alcohol abuse, diabetes, liver and kidney disease, and even stress.

Treatment

All doctors recommend, as a first step, a change in diet to a healthy diet low in calories, cholesterol and saturated fat. Experts recommend consuming more monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats from herbal products to combat bad cholesterol. They also call for exercise and weight loss. If you don’t see results after a while, your regular doctor may prescribe medication to help lower your blood cholesterol.

6 HOME REMEDIES FOR HIGH CHOLESTEROL

  1. Flaxseed and strawberry smoothies

Breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day. I won’t go into details here, but there is no doubt that a good breakfast is important to start the day with energy and a good mood. Avoid fatty foods and processed flour-based foods, and prepare a delicious smoothie as follows.

  • 1 cup low-fat yogurt.
  • 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed (linseed), and
  • 6 or 7 chopped strawberries.
  • Blend well and serve when ready in the morning.

Both flaxseed and strawberries contain a lot of fiber, which seems to stop the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream.

  1. Apple oatmeal.

The soluble fiber of oats can reduce the absorption of cholesterol, so consume it regularly.

  • 1/2 cup of pre-cooked oat kernels.
  • 235 ml of water and
  • A pinch of salt.
  • And heat in the microwave for 1 minute. Add.
  • ½ cup of diced apples.
  • 2 tablespoons of walnuts and
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder.

Stir and return to the oven for 1 minute. Remove from the oven and eat the oats.

  1. Infuse with dried herbs.

Infuse with the following dried herbs

  • 3 grams of Hibiscus sabdariffa (Hibiscus sabdariffa).
  • 3 grams of rose hips.
  • 5 grams of cinnamon flakes.

Mix all and put in a cup of boiling water. Let stand for 20 minutes, strain the liquid and drink. You can drink one glass a day.

  1. Garlic.

Garlic can lower blood cholesterol levels and help prevent atherosclerosis. Include it in your diet. If your cholesterol levels are already high, eat one clove of garlic a day, just swallow it with a little water.

  1. Myrrh capsules

Make capsules with myrrh resin and take them in the recommended dose. This resin has antiseptic properties and is very effective in lowering high cholesterol levels.

Warning: Do not use during pregnancy or lactation. May cause allergic reactions, consult your physician before taking capsules.

  1. Artichoke leaf tea

Take 7 grams of dried artichoke leaves daily for several months. You can prepare it as an herbal tea. The leaves of this herb can also help lower triglyceride levels and, for some people, relieve other symptoms such as constipation and excess gas.

Extra recommendations

  • Exercise regularly and maintain an active lifestyle.
  • Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Lose weight if you are overweight or obese.
